Hello! I am Dr. Mei Fang Lan.
Welcome! It feels magical to me that you visit my website and want to know more about me and my practice. I am a licensed psychologist in Florida (PY 8685) and California (PSY 20668), with a deep passion and strong determination to promote wellness.
My journey in Counseling Psychology began during my undergraduate years, motivated by a desire to enhance my own well-being and the realization that passion and enthusiasm alone were insufficient to effectively help others.
I pursued a master’s degree in Counselor Education at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at New York University. Furthermore, I received postdoctoral training at UC Davis Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
After completing my postdoctoral fellowship, I remained at UC Davis as an attending and supervising psychologist and Health Science Assistant Clinical Professor. In this role, I provided individual and group therapy, conducted psychological testing for outpatient clients, and trained postdoctoral psychology fellows, psychiatry residents, and medical students.
Recognizing the rising challenges in collegiate mental health, I then transitioned to a different work setting and client population. I soon moved to Gainesville, FL, to join the University of Florida Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) as a Clinical Assistant Professor, later advancing to Associate Professor. At the CWC, my responsibilities included providing direct clinical services (individual therapy, group therapy, and outreach) to university students, training and supervising psychology interns, practicum students, and postdoctoral fellows, conducting research, and engaging in community services at CWC, UF, and within professional communities both domestically and internationally.
In 2021, I decided to shift my focus once again and transitioned to independent practice. And here I am today.
My approach to therapy:
My therapeutic approach is influenced by Psychodynamics, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Socratic Questioning, and Eastern philosophies. I aim to help clients understand how their early environments may have shaped their self-perception, relationships, emotional regulation, and approach to life’s challenges. I assist them in recognizing how certain habitual thoughts and behaviors, which were once crucial for coping, might now hinder their functioning and relationships. I guide clients in strengthening their ability to ask important questions about their struggles, discover transformative solutions, and build essential resources to move forward with joy and purpose.
